Soft Skills

For years I have been interested in and intentionally working to improve who I am as a person. Because of that, I have developed better soft skills that are transferable to any job, relationship, project and life in general. It is an ongoing journey and part of that journey means recognizing that I am not perfect, so that is not what I claim.  I am just claiming that I have done extensive work to improve.

Below you will find a partial list of some of these important soft skills. Some with links to examples, demonstrations, practice or my philosophy related to those skills.  Others, you see examples of by default when looking at some of the projects or short explanations might be given beside the skill.

  • Communication
  • Conflict resolution – Just recently I had to quiet down a fight that was about to break out among 2 people in a group that I put together.
  • Leadership – I have served as President of Honor Society and liaison of my shift at my last job.  I am also the organizer of 4 meetup groups.  I run several websites.  1 which includes having other people participate in monitoring.
  • Creativity – I develop videos and digital products to convey my philosophy on driving traffic, increasing leads, improving health, etc.
  • Motivating – Develop and promote videos that encourage others to set goals and drive forward
  • Persuading – Make cases for why it makes sense to do things a certain way or make a purchase.  I practice this in written sales copy and direct face to face presentation.
  • Negotiating  – Example, recently I had to convince Amazon to allow me to sell DVD on their platform.  A category, not open to new sellers.
  • Making people comfortable – Since high school actually, I found myself wanting to make the od ball feel more comfortable.  Now I do this at work, group meetings and other public gatherings.
  • Public speaking – I hold meetings from time to time to have discussion on topics that I are relevent to several groups that I have started.
